Jerry B. Long Sr. is a legendary writer, producer, orchestrator, and arranger whose visionary work helped build the foundation of the iconic Motown sound. Considered a vital member of the original Funk Brothers, Jerry worked alongside musical luminaries such as Paul Riser and David Van DePitte. His mastery of instrumentation—specifically his role in introducing and perfecting the sweeping string progressions that defined the Motown era—left an indelible impact on the evolution of soul, funk, and jazz music.
Throughout his illustrious career, Jerry served as a regular arranger for Norman Whitfield's groundbreaking productions and earned credits on hundreds of classic Motown sides. His expansive repertoire encompasses over 500 compositions and movie scores, featuring foundational hits like The Temptations' "Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me)" and Four Tops' "Still Water (Love)."
